Saskia Haegens is a neuroscientist affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University and the Division of Systems Neuroscience at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and also holds an affiliation with the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Haegens studies neural oscillations, with particular attention to alpha and beta band rhythms and their roles in sensory processing, perceptual decision-making, and working memory. Much of this work draws on EEG, local field potential recordings, and laminar electrophysiology to examine how oscillatory dynamics across frequency bands shape neural representations and behavior. Recent publications from Haegens address topics ranging from the spectrolaminar organization of primate neocortex to the mechanistic bases of beta bursts and the role of oscillations in naturalistic language comprehension.
