Hema Preya Selvanathan is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. Selvanathan's research examines collective action, intergroup relations, and the social psychology of social change, including work on how stigma shapes mobilization among sexual and gender minorities, what motivates allies from advantaged groups to support equality movements, and how media and institutional trust influence public responses to political and public health crises. Much of this work has been conducted in comparative and cross-national contexts, including studies set in Malaysia, Bosnia and Serbia, Israel and Palestine, and across 25 countries. Selvanathan has also contributed to research on polarization, authoritarian attitudes, and counter-movements that defend the status quo.
