Adam J. Beam is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Wesleyan University. Beam's research examines social identity, intergroup relations, and the intersection of demographic categories including race, gender, and sexual orientation in shaping psychological outcomes and social attitudes. Beam's recent work has investigated topics including discrimination and exclusion across romantic and platonic contexts, identity and well-being among Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, masculinity threat and bias toward sexual minorities, and the psychological consequences of weight-based discrimination. Beam's broader research interests encompass authoritarianism, colorblindness, critical history, and systemic racism as they relate to individual well-being and democratic processes.
