Dimitris I. Tsomokos is a researcher in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at the University College London's Institute of Education, where Tsomokos investigates the developmental and cognitive foundations of mental health across childhood and adolescence. Tsomokos's research integrates social cognition, developmental psychology, and cognitive science to examine how early family relationships, social trust schemas, and embodied cognition shape trajectories of psychological well-being and interpersonal functioning. Current work by Tsomokos spans longitudinal investigations of how environmental factors including socioeconomic disadvantage, neighborhood greenspace, and social threat exposure influence brain development, reward processing, and mental health outcomes in young people. Tsomokos also examines protective and risk mechanisms such as social safety schemas, emotion regulation, and prosocial behavior that mediate associations between adverse experiences and adolescent distress, depression, and social isolation.
