Clark McCauley
Department of Psychology, Bryn Mawr College
Clark McCauley is a professor of psychology at Bryn Mawr College, where he has taught since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970. McCauley's research addresses the psychology of political violence, including terrorism, radicalization, and violent extremism. Much of this work has focused on how individuals move from ordinary beliefs toward support for political violence, a question McCauley has examined through survey-based studies of college students and incarcerated populations, as well as through theoretical models of radicalization. McCauley has also contributed to scholarly discussions of group conflict, ideological mobilization, and the contextual factors surrounding events such as the January 6 Capitol breach.
