Maykel Verkuyten

Maykel Verkuyten is a researcher affiliated with the European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER) at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Verkuyten's work spans social and intergroup psychology, with sustained attention to tolerance and intolerance, national identity, minority group experiences, and collective psychological ownership. Much of this research addresses how majority and minority groups navigate coexistence, including questions about the acceptance or rejection of Muslim minority practices, political tolerance, hate speech, and the social consequences of being tolerated rather than accepted. Verkuyten has also published on acculturation, immigrant integration, and the integration paradox, as well as on intergroup relations in childhood and adolescence.
