Chiu Yu-Chin

Chiu Yu-Chin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University, a position Chiu has held since 2018. Chiu received a PhD in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Johns Hopkins University in 2010 and completed postdoctoral training at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at Duke University from 2013 to 2018. Chiu's research focuses on cognitive control mechanisms, task switching, metacontrol processes, and the neural bases of cognitive flexibility and stability, with particular emphasis on how individuals learn to adaptively shift between different mental sets and maintain attention in complex environments. Chiu's work has examined both proactive and reactive forms of metacontrol, the role of working memory in cognitive flexibility, and applications to domains including vehicle automation and occupational stress.
