These phenomena raise urgent questions about the psychological mechanisms that either facilitate or resist such transitions. Dovidio<\/a> <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"mailto:john.dovidio@yale.edu\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:john.dovidio@yale.edu\">\u2709\ufe0f<\/a> (Yale University), seeks to advance our understanding of the psychological dynamics underlying resistance and compliance during periods of democratic decline. We welcome both theoretical and empirical contributions that, beside others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Examine the intersection of organizational and societal resistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examine the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes that shape individual and collective responses to democratic backsliding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investigate the psychological mechanisms behind institutional and individual complicity versus resistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore the role of identity, values, and group dynamics in mobilizing or inhibiting resistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze the psychological barriers to recognizing and responding to democratic erosion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study leadership psychology during periods of institutional stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investigate the psychological impact of digital technologies and social media (including misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories) on resistance dynamics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze the psychological effects of democratic backsliding for mental health and well-being of dominant and marginalized groups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All submissions will undergo a rigorous and fair,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/advances.in\/psychology\/policies-and-practices\/#ftoc-heading-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transparent and double-blind<\/a>&nbsp;peer-review process, where reviewers are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/advances.in\/our-vision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compensated financially for their work<\/a>. At advances.in\/psychology, we are committed to inclusivity and accessibility in academic publishing. <strong>Recognizing the importance of this topic and the financial constraints that may limit participation from many scholars in current environments, the <a href=\"https:\/\/advances.in\/psychology\/article-processing-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Article Processing Charges (APC)<\/a> is waived for this special issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deadline and Article Formats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deadline for submission is <strong>June 30, 2025<\/strong> (earlier submission is encouraged). <strong>Accepted papers will be published online and open access on a rolling basis. <\/strong>We accept research articles (5,000 words, excluding references), research reports (2,000 words excluding references), review\/perspective papers (up to 10,000 words, excluding references), and methods papers (no length limit). The word limit may be extended upon request.
